Potager Gardens & Cafe

Another local favourite near Constantine and the Helford River, the Potager Gardens have been lovingly created from the brambly wilderness of an abandoned plant nursery, into a beautiful plant-based greenhouse cafe.

'Potager' means 'kitchen garden', or a garden where plants and veg are interspersed and grown together. The planting here follows that premise exactly, and is fun and informal as well as beautiful to look at. The chefs use as much produce grown on site as they can, and the food is always colourful and feels totally nourishing and healthy.

You can walk around the site (dogs welcome too!) and explore the little pathways between miniature lawns, shady tree-covered areas, a wilder area for the chickens, and the badminton lawn where you can pick up a racquet and have a go. They also use this space for lovely yoga classes during the warmer months of the year - taught by Jo and the best way to stretch and start the day before a Potager breakfast!

Also making their home at Potager are a small collection of artist studios, with practitioners sometimes offering workshops. Connected by artistic and nature-orientated themes, their workshop programme is always popular and you can view their current events here.

They have paused for the moment, but Potager also have been running evening events using their outdoor pizza oven in the beautiful space under the trees. You can also keep an eye on their social media for artisan markets and Christmas gatherings for 2021!

This year, the team have asked that everyone pre-book visits via their website in order to keep everything as safe as possible during covid. If you visit - and I highly recommend that you do! - it's great to be reminded on the way out that this is a community project which is extremely grateful for any donations it receives to help grow and sustain this beautiful site for years to come.
