Why You Need To Know Your Benchmarks & Align Your Expectations...

I just shared this on my Instagram and wanted to pop an extended version on here too:


It would be so easy for me to get disheartened if I look at my email marketing statistics and see that only 4.5% of people clicked on my links. I might get into a whole spiral of negativity and decide not to bother, and totally lose confidence in my marketing.


However, it is SO important to stop and compare my stats to the industry benchmarks (provided here by Mailchimp which is the platform I use.)


Once I look at these, I can see that both my open rate and click rate are above all the averages across different industries and email marketing as a whole.


IMAGINE how this shifts my mindset ✨


Sometimes, digital marketing is about re-aligning your expectations. Maybe you're actually doing really well. 'Only' 20 people liked your post? Compare that to having 20 in-depth conversations. Don't just compare it to the viral accounts with 200 likes. Some accounts are more designed as 'clickbait' but the depth of interaction is very shallow. If you're a service-based business, or perhaps sell higher end products, then cultivating a long-term, trust-based customer or client relationship is really valuable.
